About the Lewisville Church of Christ
The appeal for the restoration of New Testament Christianity has been made in America for at least 200 years. Men called for the acknowledgment of Christ as the only head over the church, the Bible as the only creed for believers, followers of Christ to be known as Christians only, and baptism by immersion. These men began to say, "let us speak where the Bible speaks, and be silent where the Bible is silent," and they preached baptism for the remission of sins. Many others joined their ranks and thousands accepted the call for restoration far and wide. The Churches of Christ in America are heirs of the Restoration Movement.
All of this led to the pursuit of "in matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; and in all things, love." We strive to walk within the guidelines of Scripture, teaching truth in humility, and allowing God to be the judge of all men. The Lewisville Church of Christ strives to make everyone attending our various services welcome. Always with an invitation to return. Individual Bible study is always available as well as our regularly scheduled Bible Classes.
The Lewisville Church of Christ first met as a congregation, July 27, 1997, with 125 in attendance, it has grown to an average attendance of 660. Land on the corner of Summit Drive and College Parkway was purchased in November 1997 and a ground breaking for the existing building was held in March of 1998.
The church building was dedicated February 1999, with over 700 in attendance. In September 2001, the new fellowship addition was completed. The church is looking forward to adding an educational wing in the near future.
Harold G. Taylor became our first full time evangelist in January 1999, after serving part-time for the previous year. Tony Hall became Youth and family minister in June 2000 and began an active youth ministry for the teens and their parents. They are involved in activities such as family skiing trips, camping, visiting orphans in Mexico, campaigning in St. Louis, Missouri and summer camps. Mike Lewis became our Involvement and Personal Work minister in January 2004, to enhance and bring stability to these areas. Jeff Jenkins replaced Harold G. Taylor following his retirement in July 2004 as our full time evangelist.
The Lewisville Church of Christ has eight devout elders, and forty-four dedicated deacons responsible for
forty-three Ministries. Evangelism is at the forefront of the church ministries. A class, taught once a year by Mr. Taylor, is dedicated to learning how to bring lost souls to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior through home bible studies written by him called “Person to Person”. Two ladies Bible classes are held from September through May. The morning class on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 to 11:030a.m. and the Tuesday evening class Tuesday evenings at 7:30p.m. To 8:30p.m. Regular Bible classes are available for all ages. An active singles class continues to grow, as well as the college age and young married classes. This summer the Vacation Bible School had an attendance of 500.
Through all of the ministries of the church a climate of love, fellowship and unity is created. It is a place where people count by being simply Christians and serving one another as the examples set forth in the Bible.
The community is welcome at all services celebrating the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
